PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the worst
nightclub fires in U.S. history which occurred February 20, 2003 at
The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island and, at last count
today, claimed 98 lives with approximately 60 people remaining
hospitalized, including 36 in critical condition, has deeply touched
the cast and producers of the current 61-city, U.S. tour of Smucker's
Stars on Ice which will be presented Thursday, March 6, 2003 in
Providence, Rhode Island at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Smucker's Stars on Ice producer Byron Allen said, "Rhode Island
audiences have always been a favorite of Stars on Ice during its 17
years touring the United States. This year, our annual visit there has
even greater meaning as we acknowledge the emotional devastation and
despair of Rhode Island residents." Allen went on to say, "On behalf
of our entire production and our Providence performance, which we
dedicate to the people of Rhode Island, we invite, as our guests, the
families and survivors of the fire's nearly 200 victims, the some 120
West Warwick and surrounding area firefighters, involved police men
and women, medical personnel, and Rhode Island Governor Donald
L. Carcieri and his staff who have provided overwhelming support and
assistance to each everyone affected by this horrific tragedy."
The Smucker's Stars on Ice tour is co-headlined by a cast of
Olympic, World and U.S. National Champions. Among them, Olympic
Champion and legendary figure skating star Scott Hamilton (who will
make a special guest star appearance in Providence,) 2002 Olympic Pair
Champions Jamie Sale & David Pelletier of Canada, 2002 Olympic Men's
Champion Alexei Yagudin, 2002 Olympic Pair Champions Elena Berezhnaya
& Anton Sikharulidze of Russia, 2-time Olympic Champion Katarina Witt,
4-time World Champion Kurt Browning, 6-time U.S. National Champion
and World Champion Todd Eldredge, 3-time U.S. National Champions Jenni
Meno & Todd Sand, 3-time U.S. National Champions and World Bronze
medalists Kyoko Ina & John Zimmerman, and 2-time U.S. National Dance
Champions Renee Roca & Gorsha Sur.
Complimentary tickets to the 7:00 p.m. March 6th Smucker's Stars on
Ice performance in Providence, were distributed thru the Governor's
office to the American Red Cross and other relief agencies that played
a special role in responding to the crisis.
