Obviously, there is a lack of understanding and appreciation by
those who do not want to accept the judges' decision in Hamilton to keep
Kurt Browning as No.1 Canadian figure skater.
The jumps are exciting, difficult and challenging athletically, but
there is more to figure skating than quads and triples.
Artistic impression in figure skating, as in the dance, is more than
arm movement and footwork, but entire body language involving passion,
rhythmic charm, charismatic expression and a certain "class that is
mesmerizing. Some people seem to be born with it, and Kurt Browning is
one of these fortunate people.
The best advice Elvis Stojko's coach could give him would be to
shelve his regimental routines and rigid movements and invest his time
and concentration on some real dance lessons: ballet, jazz or both and
even modern dance for self-expression. His time will come.
